TUFFAK® AR2 Polycarbonate Sheet
TUFFAK® AR2 is a clear hard-coated abrasion-resistant polycarbonate sheet designed for flat architectural glazing, machine guards, security glazing, public-space panels and transparent protective barriers.
TUFFAK® AR2 is manufactured by Plaskolite, a major global producer of acrylic, polycarbonate, PETG and other see-through thermoplastic sheet products. Plaskolite acquired Covestro’s US polycarbonate sheet manufacturing business in 2018, and the TUFFAK® brand replaced the former Makrolon® sheet designation in that market.
The base material used in TUFFAK® AR2 is polycarbonate resin / PC resin. TUFFAK® is Plaskolite’s trade name for polycarbonate sheet, similar to how Lexan® is Polyvantis trade name for polycarbonate sheet.

Description
TUFFAK AR2 Hard-Coated Polycarbonate Sheet
TUFFAK® AR2 combines the high impact strength and clarity of polycarbonate with a one-side or two-side hard-coated surface for improved abrasion resistance and surface hardness. Plaskolite describes TUFFAK® AR as a hard-coated polycarbonate sheet that provides protection against chemical and UV attack while reducing long-term maintenance costs.
The Australian GAT Technologies reference identifies TUFFAK® AR2, formerly Makrolon® AR2, as a one-side or two-side hard-coated polycarbonate product with strong abrasion resistance, chemical resistance and outdoor weathering performance. It also notes availability in clear, standard tints and custom matched colours.
AR1 Surface Technology Option
TUFFAK® AR surface technology is also available as TUFFAK® AR1, a one-side hard-coated polycarbonate sheet. AR1 is designed where abrasion resistance is required on one exposed face only, or where the sheet is being laminated to another substrate such as glass or other glazing materials.
TUFFAK® AR1 is suitable for lamination, spall shield and single-surface decorative applications. It may be used as part of a glazing system to improve intruder resistance or to act as an anti-spall barrier, depending on the full laminate design, thickness and project specification.
